While some ESS responders are employees of the city/municipality and/or community services agencies, the majority of ESS responders are local volunteers.
Although most ESS work involves meetings, planning, and getting ready to respond, the day may come when you are called upon to help during a disaster. This section is designed to help you prepare yourself and your family, friends, and employer so that you will be ready to respond in a time of need.
In BC, all ESS responders have workers’ compensation and liability insurance coverage through EMBC, even those who only volunteer during the disaster response.
