After Your Assignment

Debrief with your team to:

  • Discuss what went well
  • Identify lessons learned and areas requiring improvement
  • Make action plans to implement team recommendations
  • Take additional ESS training, if necessary
  • Importance of Post-Incident Debriefing

 

Post-incident debriefing is critical in providing team members with “the opportunity to review the effectiveness of our actions and procedures during an actual incident, including the overall quality of our services to the community.” (Schmidt, 2011) The learnings from these sessions are important in improving the execution of future responses.

The following Event – Debrief Report form has been used successfully in the Cowichan Valley Regional District since 2009.
